Maritza Rodriguez went from a sedentary lifestyle to fitness freak. She started a journey to a healthy life in 2003 losing body fat, gaining muscle, strength and winning a battle against severe depression. She started modeling and dreams to someday make it on a fitness magazine cover.
She loves to be up-to-date on everything new about exercise, nutrition, supplements and the importance of giving your body a challenge by changing your routine every 6-8 weeks and also to take a rest day or two to avoid injuries from over-training. Also she likes to write articles with tips about training, nutrition, how your body works and how to find motivation based on her experience.
Maritza’s favorite routines to create are circuit training with a combination of weight lifting with plyometrics and calisthenics movements in between. Maritza is more of a weight lifting gal but she also understands the importance of cardio; so she loves jumping rope, alternating between jogging and sprinting, doing Jillian Michael DVDs (one of Maritza's role models), ExerciseTV videos, yoga, kickboxing workouts and participating in running and walking events to raise awareness for a good cause like "Stop the Silence - Stop Child Sexual Abuse" and the Maryland SPCA where she volunteers every Sunday walking and playing with dogs.
She decided to help her niece reach a healthy weight after having a baby and a close friend. Thanks to these experiences, she discovered fitness as her passion, and plans to get her personal trainer certificate soon so she can help more people understand the importance of a healthy life. Her motto is "If you don't take care of your health, then who will?"
Maritza is currently training for a half marathon and after that, maybe a full marathon.
